Desiré Freeman

Program Design Specialist

Desiré’s career work is geared towards strengthening teacher efficacy, educational equity, and access for all students, serving all children holistically to nurture and foster knowledgeable, active, socially critical, global citizens.

As an Program Design Specialist at UnboundEd, Desiré is responsible for using rich knowledge of secondary English Language Arts and current research to create professional development content, products, and resources for English Language Arts grades 6-12, with a specific focus on K-12 Multilingual Learners (MLL).

Desiré brings extensive experience in curriculum design, development, and instruction across grades 3–12 from her positions as an Educator and Instructional Coach in Guilford County, a Curriculum Writer for Chicago Public School’s Skyline Equity Curriculum, a Curriculum Operations Manager at an EdTech for learning intervention and extension, and a Curriculum Lead for EL Education’s Revisions Project with a focus on culturally relevant and sustaining practices, social and emotional learning, and access for Multilingual Learners. Before joining UnboundEd, Desiré served as a Curriculum Designer for grades 9-12 on New York City’s Hidden Voices Initiative. She has developed and delivered professional learning experiences for teachers and district leaders for many years, focusing heavily on equitable instruction, increasing the cognitive rigor of instruction, embedding culturally sustaining practices, and creating access for high-priority student groups.

Desiré values brave conversations about teaching practices and student outcomes and attributes personal and professional growth to adopting reflective habits, unearthing mindsets that inform instructional practices, engaging with high-quality professional learning, and assessing the myriad ways that history impacts our present and educational spaces.
